چکیده

Abstract Friction stir welding (FSW) is a complex joining process which governed by multiple intertwined physical phenomena. Besides friction, inelastic heat generation, and conduction, it involves high plastic deformations, resulting in need for numerical method being able to handle all these. Such scheme smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH), mesh-free computational technique. Absence of fixed mesh results the ability deal with another challenge friction welding, coalescence initially separate workpieces into one due bonding mechanisms. The background this phenomenon transition from contact between two pieces continuum enormous changes several material condition, such as temperature, pressure, strain, strain rate. This work deals new development related bonding, will provide deeper understanding about weld formation during FSW. SPH framework must be extended consider mechanism. criterion definition, interaction type change, SPH–SPH formulation. Then, implementation tested different examples, compression test

Material Flow Visualization in Friction Stir Welding via Particle Tracing

This work deals with the modeling of the material flow in Friction Stir Welding (FSW) processes using particle tracing method. For the computation of particle trajectories, three accurate and computationally efficient integration methods are implemented within a FE model for FSW process: the Backward Euler with Substepping (BES), the 4-th order Runge-Kutta (RK4) and the Back and Forth Error Com...

Misalignment detection for friction stir welding or Enabling seam tracking for friction stir welding

This paper describes a technique for determining the position of the friction stir welding (FSW) tool with respect to the weld seam during welding. This technique is proposed for online misalignment detection or as a position estimator for in-process tracking of the weld seam for FSW.

Optimization of Friction Stir Welding Tool Advance Speed via Monte-Carlo Simulation of the Friction Stir Welding Process

Recognition of the friction stir welding process is growing in the aeronautical and aero-space industries. To make the process more available to the structural fabrication industry (buildings and bridges), being able to model the process to determine the highest speed of advance possible that will not cause unwanted welding defects is desirable. A numerical solution to the transient two-dimensi...

Simulation of Robotic Friction Stir Welding of Aerospace Components

Friction stir welding (FSW) is an emerging manufacturing technology for aerospace structures. It will see widespread use in the future as it offers ways of creating lighter structures at lower manufacturing cost than traditional methods (riveting, adhesive bonding). Since its invention in 1991, FSW has known fast improvements and many studies have demonstrated its capability for joining a wide ...

Friction stir welding and processing

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a relatively new solid-state joining process. This joining technique is energy efficient, environment friendly, and versatile. In particular, it can be used to join high-strength aerospace aluminum alloys and other metallic alloys that are hard to weld by conventional fusion welding. FSW is considered to be the most significant development in metal joining in a de...
